Fifth Friday Forum Tackles the Hidden Curriculum:

Teaching Money at Home

Financial literacy isn’t just a classroom subject—it’s a life skill. And this January, the Foundation of FM is bringing it front and center at our Fifth Friday Speaker Series.

On Friday, January 30, community members, educators, and local leaders will gather at The Allen House for an insightful breakfast conversation on a topic often left out of school curricula but vital to every household: Financial Education at Home.

K–12/College – Benefits and Pitfalls

This Fifth Friday event dives into what many call the “hidden curriculum” — the real-life knowledge students often don’t get in school. Topics such as budgeting, saving, investing, debt management, and long-term financial planning will be explored with a practical lens that parents, caregivers, and educators alike can apply at home.

Expert Panelists

Our distinguished panel includes:

Larry Zuckerman, CPA, MST, CEFI, Professor of Business & Accounting at FMCC

Charlene Dybas, Assistant Professor of Business & Accounting at FMCC

Christina DeLuca, Business Education Teacher and Curriculum Department Leader at Amsterdam High School

Together, they’ll lead an engaging discussion around the benefits and pitfalls of financial education across age groups — from early money habits in elementary school to navigating student loans and credit in college.

“Teaching kids about money isn’t just about dollars and cents. It’s about giving them confidence, freedom, and the power to make informed choices,”

- Professor Zuckerman.
